Day 1 Arrive Tokyo
Welcome to Japan! Upon arrival at Narita or Haneda International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Tokyo.
Day 2 Tokyo
Begin your journey in Asakusa, where traditional meets modern in a tapestry of flavors. Wander through Nakamise-dori, a bustling street leading to Senso-ji Temple, lined with vendors offering freshly made ningyo-yaki (small, doll-shaped cakes filled with sweet red bean paste) and fragrant senbei (rice crackers). Continue to Shibuya, Tokyo's energetic heart pulsating with a diverse culinary scene. Dive into the famous Shibuya crossing and explore local eateries offering a plethora of Japanese dishes. Enjoy yakitori skewers grilled to perfection, rich tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet), and creamy, savory tamagoyaki (Japanese omelette). For a modern twist, visit trendy cafes serving innovative desserts like matcha-infused parfaits and fluffy Japanese pancakes, accompanied by artisanal coffee or green tea latte. Then visit the underground wonderland of depachika, the sprawling food halls found beneath Tokyo's department stores. Immerse yourself in a paradise of gourmet delights, where counters brim with fresh sushi, delicate wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets), and a kaleidoscope of bento boxes showcasing seasonal delicacies.
Day 3 Tokyo
Learn how to cook Japanese dishes and enjoy your creation for lunch! In the evening join the Shinjuku food tour.
Day 4 Tokyo to Takayama
After breakfast, you will take trains from Tokyo to Takayama. Takayama is a charming city located in the mountainous Hida region of Gifu Prefecture, known for its beautifully preserved Edo-period streets and traditional wooden houses. Walk through the old town area to explore a variety of merchant houses and museums that offer a glimpse into the daily life and culture of old Japan.
Day 5 Takayama to Kanazawa
This morning you will join the morning food tour. Explore the morning markets, where they can sample local delicacies and learn about the area's long-standing food traditions. You will also visit traditional shops like tofu sellers, sake breweries, and Japanese sweets stores, offering a taste of authentic Takayama flavors. After the tour, you will travel to Kanazawa.
Day 6 Kanazawa
You will visit Kenrokuen garden. The name "Kenrokuen" translates to "Garden of the Six Sublimities," which refers to the six essential attributes that make a perfect garden: spaciousness, seclusion, artificiality, antiquity, abundant water, and broad views. The garden spans over 25 acres and exemplifies traditional Japanese landscape gardening techniques. After exploring the garden, you will visit Higashi Chaya district. The most well-preserved and picturesque historic districts, known for its traditional tea houses, known as "chayas," where geishas once entertained. The district dates back to the Edo period and retains much of its original charm with beautifully restored wooden buildings lining the narrow, stone-paved streets. You can explore several chayas that have been converted into museums or cafes, offering a glimpse into the elegant world of geisha culture. Don't miss the gold leaf soft serve! In the late evening you will visit the local port to witness the vibrant seafood night auction!
Day 7 Kanazawa to Kaga Onsen
Start your day with a visit to Nagamachi Samurai district. It is a historic district features narrow lanes, earthen walls, and traditional samurai residences, many of which have been restored and converted into museums. Among the highlights is the Nomura Samurai House, which showcases artifacts, a beautiful garden, and exhibits detailing the samurai way of life. Have lunch at Omicho market. Omicho market is a bustling marketplace that has been in operation since the Edo period, serving as the city's primary fresh food market. It is renowned for its wide variety of fresh seafood, local produce, and specialty foods. This afternoon you will travel to Kaga Onsen where you will stay at a traditional ryokan. Rewind at onsen and enjoy the kaiseki meal.
Day 8 Kaga Onsen to Kyoto
After breakfast, you will travel to Kyoto. You will explore the sacred grounds of Fushimi Inari Shrine, famous for its vibrant torii gates that wind through a forested mountainside. Then, you will admire the architectural marvels of Kiyomizu-dera temple, offering panoramic views of Kyoto from its elevated wooden stage. Finally, you will stroll through the historic Gion district, where traditional teahouses and the graceful art of geisha enchant visitors with a glimpse into Japan's past.
Day 9 Kyoto
You will explore the exquisite beauty of Kinkakuji, the renowned Golden Pavilion, with its shimmering golden exterior set against a serene pond and lush gardens. Afterward, you will venture into the scenic Arashiyama area, where you can wander through the tranquil Sagano bamboo grove, known for its towering bamboo stalks swaying gently in the breeze. Your tour will also include a visit to Tenryuji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its stunning garden landscapes and historic architecture.
Day 10 Osaka and Nada
You will visit Shinsekai, a vibrant district renowned for its nostalgic atmosphere and local delicacies. Stroll through the bustling streets lined with colorful signs and retro storefronts, and indulge in iconic Osaka dishes like crispy kushikatsu and savory okonomiyaki. Walk through Dotonbori, Osaka's bustling entertainment district, teeming with restaurants and food stalls. Here, tempt your palate with Osaka's signature street foods like piping-hot takoyaki, crispy tempura, and creamy, melt-in-your-mouth taiyaki. Then travel to Nada in Kobe city where traditional breweries nestled among scenic landscapes. Immerse yourself in the art of sake brewing, learning about centuries-old techniques and sampling a variety of sake flavors, from smooth daiginjo to robust junmai. For today’s dinner, enjoy Kobe beef!
Day 11 Depart Kyoto
You will be transferred to Kansai or Osaka International airport for your onward flight.
